Preserving the Visual Record
The Picture Library is the central visual archive of the MACH BASE ecosystem, created to preserve photographs, scanned documents, artwork and visual records for current users and future generations.
More than a gallery, the Picture Library is designed as a structured archive where every image can be connected to people, places, organisations, stories and historical events. Every photograph has the potential to become an important part of a much larger record.
Building a Living Archive
Photographs are among the most powerful historical records we leave behind. They preserve faces, places, achievements, traditions, landscapes and moments that written records alone can never fully capture.
The Picture Library has been developed to ensure these visual records remain organised, searchable and connected. Rather than existing as isolated images, photographs become part of an evolving archive that continues to grow with every contribution.

Every photograph belongs to a structured collection. Collections are grouped into MACH BASE suites while remaining connected through common themes such as people, places, historical periods and photographic collections.
Each image may include titles, captions, dates, locations, contributor information and related stories. This allows a single photograph to become the starting point for discovering broader histories and relationships across the archive.
The result is a visual knowledge system that can be explored from many different perspectives rather than through a single folder structure.
